Endowment Funds

The Nelson College Trust Foundation currently operates the following endowment funds to provide an extensive range of opportunities and support for young men at Nelson College.

  •  Building
This fund supports the maintenance and development of the college's buildings, grounds and general property.  The priority of this fund is to maintain and develop buildings and property owned separately by the Board and donated to the college by Old Boys and other donors.  This includes Matakitaki Lodge, Te Ara Poutama, Gibbons Trade Centre, and the Broads playing fields.

  • Sport
This fund supports the operation and development of sport at Nelson College.  This may cover hiring coaches and sports staff, purchasing gear, and other general expenses such as travel costs.

  • 1st XV
This fund supports the 1st XV rugby programme as a flagship sports programme at the college.  It supports costs such as employing coaches, purchasing gear, player scholarships and hardship support, and other general expenses such as travel costs.

  • Sport - Helping Hand
This fund supports students facing hardship by paying some or all of their costs associated with sport, e.g. uniform, trip fees, etc.

  •  Cultural Excellence
This fund supports the operation and development of the performing and visual arts at Nelson College.  This includes the development of arts and music initiatives, hiring of instructors, purchasing equipment and gear, and other general expenses relating to the arts.

  • Academic
This fund promotes academic excellence at Nelson College through support for recruitment and development of teachers at the college.  It provides high quality professional development opportunities for staff such as the annual 'Rutherford Scholarship' that sends promising or high-performing teachers overseas to visit schools and international best practice back to Nelson College.

  • Student Scholarships – Boarding
These scholarships will be provided to students selected by the Tumuaki/Principal to fund or partially fund their boarding costs annually.  The College will administer an annual application process for these annually.

  • Student Scholarships - General
General scholarships to assist with the general costs of attending school, including  provision of uniform, meals and trips in consultation with the college.

  • Helping Hand
This fund supports students through the provision of uniform, equipment, and other expenses such as lunches and trip costs.

  • General Endowment Fund
A general fund to support the wider operations of the college at the discretion of the Trust Foundation in consultation with the Tumuaki (Principal) annually.
